Welcome to the 3C Project eNewsletter

In the sixth eNewsletter for the 3C Project, we have included details about how you can join with us to celebrate the innovative use of eLearning to support teaching and learning by PolyU staff. From the 12th to 16th October we have a number of events planned which will help shine the spotlight on eLearning at PolyU and we would like you to take part in as many of these events as possible. Details about the program for the week are given below and you can find out more about the project and the project team at our website http://www.3c.edc.polyu.edu.hk/

Finalists for Teaching and Learning Innovation Award 2009 announced

The Selection Panel for the 2009 Teaching and Learning Innovation Award has determined the four finalists for the Award. They are:

  • Core SL Team consisting of:

    • Dr Vincent Ng, Department of Computing
    • Mr Paul Penfold, School of Hotel and Tourism Management
    • Ms Mei Li, Pao Yue-Kong Library
    • Mr Newman Lau, School of Design
    • Mr Peter Duffy, Educational Development Centre
    • Ms Au Yeung Yuen Yee, Gigi, Department of Applied Social Science
    • Mr Liu Chun Yu, Bill, Department of Applied Social Science
  • Dr Marco Pang, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences
  • Mr Paul Penfold, School of Hotel and Tourism Management
  • Professor Eric Tsui, Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Faculty of Engineering
Each of the Award finalists will give a brief presentation at the eLearning Showcase event to be held on the 16th October – more about this later in this eNewsletter – after which the winner of the 2009 Teaching and Learning Innovation Award will be announced and presented by Professor Demokan, Vice President (Academic Development). Congratulations to all the finalists and thank you to everyone who submitted applications for the Award.

Spotlight on eLearning in October


Consultant's visit

From the 12th to the 16th October, we will be shining the spotlight on eLearning through a series of activities associated with the visit of Professor Diana Laurillard, a noted eLearning expert visiting from the UK, including:
  • Workshops facilitated by Professor Laurillard
    • “Pedagogic Design for Active Learning” on Monday 12th October
    • “Modelling Teacher and Learner Productivity” on Thursday 15th October
  • Lunchtime meetings with the 3C Project eLearning Advocates, staff from the eLearning Development Support Section of EDC and senior management to discuss eLearning strategy and planning at PolyU;
  • Consultation time for staff to discuss eLearning related matters with Professor Laurillard;
  • An open lecture  from 9.30 – 11.00 am in Y302 entitled:
"The effective use of digital technologies for learning and teaching".

eLearning Showcase

On the 16th October, the 3C Project is hosting an all-day event, consisting of:

 
9.30 – 11.15 Professor Laurillard’s open lecture;
11.15 – 12.15 eLearning Showcase;
12.15 – 1.15 Teaching and Learning Innovation Award Presentation
    

The eLearning Showcase will include a display of posters and demonstrations of eLearning initiatives at PolyU. A light lunch will be served during the Showcase.

Those who attend the eLearning Showcase can vote for the poster or demonstration they think is the most innovative use of eLearning. Everyone who votes will go into the draw for a prize, the winner of which will be drawn at 1.15 pm, along with the announcement of the most popular eLearning poster or demonstration.

Following the eLearning Showcase on the 16th October, from 12.15 to 1.00 pm the finalists for the 2009 Teaching and Learning Innovation Award will each give a brief presentation on their applications. Following these presentations, the winner of the 2009 Teaching and Learning Innovation Award will be announced by VP (AD) and a presentation of the award made.
